[sdiy] SynthDIY vs guitarDIY?

I deal with both groups and I agree with Paul's points.

Pedals have a much lower bar to entry than synths. Building a simple fuzz can need as few as five or six components. Classic pedals like the Dallas Rangemaster are equally simple. A "simple" synth would be something like the Wasp or the Minimoog!

Both this and the fact that there are more guitarists to begin with means there are a lot more people giving pedal DIY a go. I would say that it also means the level of knowledge for pedal builders is often lower. No-one would try and build a synth unless they could read a schematic, but I often hear people say "I can't really read schematics" on DIYStompboxes.com, for example. With the many kits available, the truth is you *can* build yourself some pedals without ever having to read a schematic or order specific parts. Just take the bits out of the package and solder it together like it says in the instructions.
