I always suspected the modules
/potting were a carry over from Pearlman's early discrete opamp design work at Philbrick and Nexus Research?  Put the sensitive stuff in a sometimes shielded box and pot it so its all at the same temp, no drafts, etc?

Sensitive could also mean borrowed IP in this case.  :-p
