Some AV software has been proven to make your system less safe than without
it.

Eg. the very bad security flaw (not a virus/malware) in all Symantec AV
products earlier this year that demonstrated nothing less than prolonged
neglect on their part. I was astonished.

And it's not even the first time this has happened. Didn't Microsoft make a
point of forcibly removing Symantec AV during the upgrade to Windows 10
because doing so improved the security posture of your PC?
