It already has. Have you not heard of the Maker Movement? Maker Faire? Maker Magazine? The popularity of robots, and Arduinos, and Rasberry Pi's? The SteamPunk movement? AdaFruit? Lego Mindstorms? Robot Wars? IoT projects? Electric Imp? 3D printer projects? All the stuff on KickStarter and Indiegogo?
The list is long. There's arguably more DIY stuff going on now than ever before.
And a store that caters to that crowd has a pretty good chance of succeeding.
And it will do even better if you set it up with social activities: sponsor meetups, show and tells, workshops, kid-oriented programs, electronics classes, steampunk balls, etc.
