Yeah I thought it was too, at first. But after setting some
carefully-considered (ie. can all be comfortably and reliably hit with my
non-mouse hand) keyboard shortcuts in it, it got a lot more efficient to use

Also a recent version (7.7.0) seems to have added labelling of traces in
the layout editor. I don't know why it took CadSoft so long to do this, but
it's an enormous improvement. Example:
