We have a bunch of th flir units at work, as the e40 (not sure of the exact type, but that formfactor), and with these the minimum distance is pretty close so you can really "zoom" in on a component. The snap on units are probably fix focus, so that will limit the amount of detail.

Jarno.

Onderwerp: [sdiy] Flir One iOS/Android for SMT PCB analysis?

I'm looking for some heat analysis/measurement help that is a step up from the £5 laser thermometer I bought off eBay.

Has anyone here got experience with using this for PCB heat analysis?

http://www.flir.co.uk/flirone/ios-android/

I know it's not going to compete with a multi-thousand currency device - but I'm wondering if it would allow enough resolution to show potential problems with individual component/traces/connections on a SMT PCB?

Most of the press images from the company show very large objects being measured. This is the only video I've seen so far where someone uses it for specifically this application - and it doesn't look too bad:

Thanks,

/ J
