Indeed, but at the cost of adding four regular diodes. Maybe those are
enough cheaper than Zeners to make the substitution worthwhile? Maybe it
helps to also use dual packs for the non-Zener diodes (so that component
count only increases by one)? My usual expectation is that minimizing
number of components makes a bigger difference to cost than which
components they are, but I defer to your experience.
