[sdiy] From a commercial standpoint -- has Eurorack "won"?

fwiw, i think Euro has reached its dominance for two reasons - (1) price
and (2) availability.
remember when modules were built to order? you couldn't get MOTM (even a
kit), Wiard, Serge, etc, inside a year. if you wanted to get a modular off
the ground in a timely fashion, DIY was your best option.
however, there was another option - Doepfer had stock of modules in this
hokey format with a boomworthy power connector and headroom the audio
people scoffed at. but it worked and shipped in a timely fashion. and once
everyone had some Doepfer, they wanted other stuff that would play well
with it. hence!
