I have also felt HV DC through my fingers.  The one-hand-in-pocket is
a good safeguard as it prevents current from traveling through your
heart which is lethal.

But it is easy to forget.  If you have not had much experience around
HV, it is highly recommended that you let a competent tech do the job.
