It's even quicker and easier to just etch stuff up at home.
I tend to use bird's-nest construction when I'm prototyping stuff and then make a couple of experimental PCBs once I've got it more or less right. It doesn't take long, even if I can't be bothered heating up the bubble tank.
I'm nowhere near experienced enough to get much out of circuit simulation, so I just design and build things.
