[sdiy] Programming Language of choice

Hello all,
As I continue my endeavor into embedded systems, I was wondering what the groups' consensus is on the most prominent programming language for a beginner in the world of MCUs. From my experience with Atmel AVR series MCUs and the TI MSP family of MCUs, "C" has been quite the valuable programming language to continue learning. As I expand my knowledge base into the, much larger world of MCUs, what would be the most valuable language to start learning at this point? Thank you in advance.    Sincerely,
