I remember when Microchip started, and swore they would never discontinue a 
product..
I suppose there might be some philosophical difference between "discontinue" 
and
"currently out of stock but never really intend to make any more of"....
Still, they really raised the bar in supplying undocumented features at no 
extra charge.
