yeah those things are nice, didn't use the F3xx series so far but the
F4xx series, both have an M4 core.
This means:
Mostly single cycle FPU instructions and single cycle conversion between
float and int, stuff like MAC for integer.
So whoever unfamiliar with these MCUs read that and thought "kinda
pentium 1 with 70 MHz" kind of power, I think that would be off, as the
P1 had a lot more to chew on those instructions :-)
The F4 series can run at 168 MHz (or some can 180 MHz I think)
There is quite cheap (~ 20..30 EUR) "discovery" boards as they call it
with the STM32F4xx (and also F3xx), the one has a 16bit stereo DAC with
audio amp (STM32F407 discovery), another has 8MB SDRAM + 320x240 TFT
display (STM32F429 discovery, seems unavailable right now)
which some people on YT have done DSPy stuff with.
Like here:

ST also has cheap "nucleo" boards with these (the nucleo are more bare
bones usually IIRC)
At RS-online (german branch), the "Nucleo Board for STM32F303 Series"
costs 10,14 EUR + tax.
The discovery and nucleo boards have an ST-Link V2 debugger on board -
i.e. plug in USB port, install some lite version of an IDE, and you can
program and debug (single step instructions, see variable values etc)
for nothing more than those few bucks.
