A popular alternative to DC blocking capacitors that has gained
popularity in the hifi world is the DC servo around one or more stages
to slowly servo the output to zero DC by applying a DC bias at the
input.  The tradeoff is having a servo circuit that degrades the
performance less than blocking caps.  The benefit is, as you say,
stunning bass response!
