Without adding anything to the original question - I disagree with the
statement that this is a rip-off.
Business offering a service - nothing untoward with that.
Having a quick look - there are some single eeproms from under $20. $60
may get you a four chip set - all seems to depend on the number of chips
and possibly the particular chip variety.
If you can do it yourself (or have a suitable friend) then, sure, you
may be able to do it cheaper - though it'll take you some time, so
depends how you value your time.
Personally, I may sometime need an eeprom for a lexicon rack and, while
I'm somewhat tempted to invest the time & money on getting myself to a
point where I can DImYself, the asking price does not strike me as
unreasonable.
