I'm trying to cover several topics here rather than reply to
three or more messages.
First, thanks to Rick for hosting this list all these years,
and if there's any expense to hosting the list in the future
I would be happy to contribute.
Second, I don't post enough here to have a vote but I enjoy
reading many topics on the list. I prefer an email server to
anything like Slack or Facebook. Yahoo and Google are not
quite as bad but I sympathize with concerns about privacy.
I administer several different forums and each has its own
personality and thrives using different solutions. My groups
on Facebook seem to be mostly one-way, i.e. a few posting and
a lot of people consuming. Most of the posts involve images
or links to articles, with maybe a little discussion. Finding
anything requires scrolling FOREVER! Most of the posts here
generate a lot of discussion and the archives are invaluable.
I think mailing lists work best for that.
I am doing a lot of DIY these days but most of my work is
related to Internet of Things (IoT). I still use a lot of
the same parts (passives, connectors, digital), I try to
keep a good variety of stuff on hand to share at maker-type
events. I would be happy to share what I have at cost or
barter, or participate in any group buys.
As I recall the developers of an FM synthesizer shield for
Arduino advertised their KickStarter campaign here. I made
a modest contribution and I'm happy to say I have received
my shield and both it and the software look great! I would
be interested in getting advice from anyone experienced
with KickStarter and similar startup funding mechanisms as
I have a few projects in mind.
Now back to lurking mode...
