For what it's worth I'd tend to agree with avoiding Slack and the like -
one of the attractive points of sdiy has, I think, been the simplicity
and ubiquity of basic old email :)

If folk were happy with the ozlabs.org route I should clarify that it
wouldn't cost anything - those of us involved cover the cost between us
for the occasional hardware updates and colocation expenses.
I'm -fairly- sure we could migrate the archives as well which would I
think be useful.
Will just state/restate that I've no agenda here other than keeping what
I think is one of the best technical lists on the 'net continuing in a
happy environment - a modest contribution then to the sdiy-commons :)
