In all my electronics projects (including radio stuff, and stuff for work) I use E6 values where possible and E12 if I have to (particularly capacitors), and adapt the circuit to use the parts on hand.

Nothing in a synthesizer is *that* critical, except maybe a VCO - and I don't think VCOs are worth building, so it's not a problem I run into.
