Plus one for dsPIC33F. I don't find them expensive at all. I use assembly language and the dsPIC to be easy to program and efficient, moreso using DMA. I don't think that a 12 voice Karplus-Strong MIDI synth with pitch bend is doing too badly at all. -- ScottG
