My impression is that having the transistors on the same substrate - inside the same chip - gets you 99% of the way towards matching. It may not be worth the trouble of worrying about which transistors are closer to each other. Of course, there might be some minor advantages to being that careful about the design.
In power amplifiers, discrete transistors are simply placed on the same heat sink to allow the temperature compensation to do its thing.
