Yes, buy a nice one for the workshop leader and cheap out on the student 
ones!

[I've successfully taught quite a few workshops with the cruddy sub-£10 
ones that crop up everywhere - they are perfectly capable if you teach 
correct technique - soldering & cleaning]

And, yes, I did get one of those Metcals too!
