I've mentioned Microchip's MCP23017/23S17 here before so I'll be
brief. I like them! Similar principle to PCF8574 except 16 GPIO and
two interrupt pins. Three of those would give you 24 switches and 24
LEDs. They're quite pleasant to program, IMHO.
