Sorry, not what I understand of the system...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EMS-Synthi-Matrix-Pins/131619714504?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D33745%26meid%3D30892954e2484e43b2fc1f5858e338d2%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D301757735684
The above IS "buy it now or best offer" (one pin for 20 quid - ouch!), there are two buttons.
This Synthi 100 has ONLY one button - "buy it now"!
The few times I have seen what you describe, the buy it now option disappears if anybody places a bid below that.

I don't think that's what "Buy It Now" means in the context of eBay.
Setting a BIN price means the seller is willing (and commits) to terminate the auction and sell immediately at the BIN price. Having an auction at all means they're willing to sell, at the end of the auction, at the price set by the auction. A minimum price below which they're not willing to sell would be called a "reserve" and shown as part of the auction rules; it's not at all the same as BIN. In fact, it's more like the opposite:
BIN is like a *maximum* price, because someone willing to pay it would presumably do so instead of bidding in the auction.
