One other thing that you might want to consider... soldering iron.

With a clean bit just dab the iron so that it just *slightly* deforms 
the plastic receptacle on the inside the knob. Seems a little harsh but 
works very well on slider caps.

Don't forget to wipe the bit as soon as you've done it. If it smells 
you've probably over done it - you want to melt it not burn it - but 
keep the window open if you're doing a lot of them.
