That's an understatement: An FPGA will allow you squeeze at least
thousands of timers on it. :)
I read an article yesterday about TI's proposed flash programmable ARM
microcontroller with embedded programmable logic. If you can wait for
that, you'll have a pretty big hammer for modern DCO construction.
