Well, it seems they're actually remarked SID chips, with a layer of
black paint and then new markings. They may be complete fakes, broken
chips, factory rejects, made later from old die stock. However, the
exact reasons don't really matter. Call them fake, dodgy, whatever.
You may be paying for a chip that is less than fully functional, that
is what should matter.

Remember that the origin of these chips are likely the country that
produces fakes of everything from FTDI chips, and Gucci handbags, to
rice and eggs made form plastic resin, that are being sold to local,
poor, and unsuspecting customers.

However, loss of markings and a layer of black paint, only to find
another marking below, DOES prove something. So do date codes with
corresponding model numbers that didn't exist yet at the specified
time.
