I agree.  A power supply is where the equipment you will touch interfaces 
with the mains electrical supply.  Definitely not the place to skimp or take 
any chances safety wise.

Some cheap Chinese switched-mode power supplies i've taken apart have had as 
little as 1.5mm creepage distance between mains live input and 0v output!  I 
wouldn't want to be holding anything powered from the output of one of those 
supplies.  Particularly as Class-2 power supplies have no protective earth 
to save the user in the event of an insulation failure.

I wouldn't trust either one without cracking one open and inspecting
it. Especially not the $2.50 one. You'd probably find that corners
were cut at every opportunity. And while missing mains filtering and
lacking insulation in the transformer (say) might be fine for driving
a LED stripe, it may not be what you want to use for an audio product
that you want to be safe, and as noise free as possible when
connecting it to other gear.
