Applying a pulse into the filters, is equivalent to applying a flange type 
effect to the output.  If you vary the width of the pulse it's like varying 
the delay of the flange effect, that's why it sounds like that.  Changing 
pulse width, or a flanger's delay setting, both shift the locations of the 
deep notches in the frequency response.
