Hello

As far as I know the 2050 (2055?) and the 2056 are pin compatible. 2056s 
pin 2 offers a trim function, which is NC on the 2050 (source 
http://files.electro-music.com/forum/topic-16414.html).
There are a lot of 2056 available, because people used to grab them from 
Korg Poly61's which had suffered the battery leakage. So in this case 
I'd vote for "use them".

On the other hand there is Tom Wiltshires great VCADSR:

which is nearly as simple to build as an SSM2056 based EG.
