[sdiy] TEK scope issue 5110 ---screen only works in the far right !

I recently was given a TEK 5110 mainframe scope 

Lots of fun as though it's only 2mhz, it can display up to six traces at once 

BUT today when hooking it up to an external time base to view my analog computer, after working perfectly for many minutes the screen went blank 


NOW....here's the problem 

No matter how I set it , I can only see the displayed waveforms WAYYY over in the middle right corner ! 

Even if I mess with the position knobs till the cows come home 

I tried removing the mainframe cards and swapping them into other slots.  .no difference 

In fact only when I REMOVE all the cards does the scope DOT appear in the very center 


Any ideas?
