Continous rotary encoders, no panel scales, no knob pointers or dots,
so once your fingers have left the knob you have no idea where it is
pointing.
Same as Roland's alpha-dial (although that did have a finger hole so
you have some visual feedback on the parameter you were currently
editing), or indeed any rotary encoder on any panel.
