Dumb thought for you.  I dont have a CR8000 to look at but from the photos
it looks like the DIN5 connector bolts to the back panel.  Maybe swap it for
a DIN8 and build your breakout cable.  Enough pins so you can have
everything, no cosmetic modification.  You'll have to wire the Sync portion
of the new jack to the board as it looks like the existing jack is board
mounted, but thats kinda trivial and easily reversable by installing the
original jack ( which of course you keep ).
