You may try to estimate the tempco.
Put the resistor in refridgerator for couple of minutes (assuming
there's about +5 .. +10 deg.C), then measure resistance. Then hold it in
your hand for some time to heat up to body temperature and mesure again.
Metal film should show about 0.3% difference, while carbon one about
1.5% or more.
