Certainly the forward potentiometer, and the equivalent resistor divider, are the very symbols of padding down a signal, so it's not surprising that would be the go-to approach.
The backwards potentiometer requires rethinking the fundamentals. Which is something I do regularly. And something Rickenbacker and Fender did designing instruments in the late 50's.
Perhaps we'll see it used more now.
Anybody know of any other examples of designs with backwards pots? I wonder what the earliest example would be.
