ok, think I follow,

two things :)
1) most DAWs don't have a 'don't echo' option, or you'll need a local 
off (most obvious when playing a note as you'll get two notes when you 
press one key).
2) if the value coming in from MIDI and being sent to the DAC is the 
same as the one that was sent to it, then there's no problem. you either 
don't update the DAC as the value is the same as before, or if you do 
update it, who cares as the value won't change :)
