Hi Guys.
Many thanks for all your replies. In the end, some low-odour white
spirit did the trick in a slightly less smelly way than expected.
The paint underneath where the velcro strips were is very slightly
discoloured compared to the rest of the panel, but this was not due to
the white spirit, and the nasty goo is gone. The owner is satisfied ;-)
