I can totally relate to that.

I once did some work on dynamics processing for the broadcast industry.  
And once you get your ear tuned-in to listening for undesirable 
"pumping" and "breathing" artifacts from badly applied compression, you 
are doomed to notice them every time you turn on the radio or TV :-(

The same goes for things like MP3 compression artifacts too.  I'm 
frequently irritated by horrible sounding speech on BBC News 24, and 
insist that my wife turns the telly over to BBC1 for the news where the 
audio is much crisper, but she can't hear any difference.

In audio, sometimes ignorance is bliss!!!
