back in 2011 I did a PCB for a DIY project, called VCP Sequencer:

it actually did voltage to rhythm conversion, not using a microcontroller and software/code, but an ADC.

I later turned it into an eurorack module:
http://www.fonitronik.de/index.php/modules/mh11-adc-pattern-sequencer/

currently I am working on an improved ADC circuit, with the pattern selection synced to an external clock.
