Hi Joe,
I personaly used and still use laminated self-adhesive vinyls
for all my Moog system 55 clone modules front panels.
Very detailed pictures here of how I did it:

and check for the subdirectory named MIDI_interface/pictures.
There are lots of detailed pictures on how I make my frontpanels.
And by the way I use a small german program called Front Designer v3.0
http://www.abacom-online.de/uk/html/frontdesigner.html
to lay all the texts, holes and potentiometer graphics.
Then I create a PDF file to get it printed localy here.
All my holes are punched using a small table press.
That's it !
