I would strongly recommend "Electronic Principles" by Malvino. I had the
3rd edition, which was particularly good. Very well written and
understandable, lots of excellent examples, worked out (unlike TAOE), and a
really thorough discussion of transistor circuits.
I'm not sure that you're going to find a book that discusses all the
vagaries of the different capacitors in a way that we discuss around here.
There are some pretty nice summaries of this on the internet. Our own Harry
Bissell wrote a good one a while back. The first chapter of TAOE is a
pretty decent introduction, but I'll admit that the book does get pretty
heavy pretty fast. However, if you're like me, you will eventually get to
the point where you can really profit from it later.
You also should have Walt Jung's "IC Op-Amp Cookbook" in your library. That
book is chock full of opampy goodness.
