Are you trying to check continuity between the chip and the PCB?
Optical inspection with a microscope is usually the easiest method for me.
You can also measure the impedance to GND or VDD of the net in
question via a test-point on the PCB, and then compare this value to a
golden-sample.
Using finer probes will definitely help for probing the package directly...
