I use the Weller WS81 station with the WSP80 handpiece and one of those
holders that switch of the iron when not in use. The only minor gripe I
have with this combination is that the iron is not quite fast enough to
heat up more or less instantly after I pick it up from the holder. When
shopping for a new soldering station (having used a fixed temperature
Weller station for around 10 years) I looked at all the interesting
brands like Hakko, Metcal or JBC and ultimately decided upon the Weller
because I can get replacement parts easily and cheaply at a local
electronics store or any of the online shops that I usually order from.
But to be honest I don't solder that much, but when I do I want a decent
(not necessarily the best professional tool on the market) iron that I
can rely on.
