Hi Achim,

I think this is a great idea:

A cardboard tube, plastic kitchen container or larger plastic drum could
be used, with layers of paper and/or masking tape to bring it to the
correct circumference. Then a knife could be used to cut the wire - or
scissors if there was some kind of slot.

For some cables I make I want 1 metre lengths of red, orange and yellow
hookup wire. I have three spools on my left and pull the ends to the
right marker of a 1 metre ruler. At the left marker I have my
sidecutters and I grip the three wires there. Then I pull the gripped
part over to the right marker, holding the left end of the three wires
in my left fingers. I cut the wires at the right marker and continue
the process.
