And I can also confirm (thanks to Steve at Roland UK sending me the
service manual) that the R-8m does exactly the same, albeit only 6
individual outputs rather than 8 for the R-8.
Oh, and the weird-looking resistor arrangement at the stereo L/R pair
implements the 7-position pan setting.  Crude, but it works.
