Back in 1980, when the LM13600 was new, I developed a switchable 2Q/4Q 
multiplier (VCA/RM).  Writeup is in EN#113.  It employed modifications to 
the data sheet circuits, which indeed did not work well.  There has been 
recent interest in this circuit, and a board will be available for sale soon.
