[sdiy] Andromeda A6 repair?

I will be taking possession of an Andromeda A6 that hangs in boot to the 
"splash" screen.
The service manual points to connections and possibly a SRAM replacement. 
Most users say that replacing the main board fixes this issue - looks like 
the supply of main boards has evaporated.  I really want to fix this without 
going to that extreme due to expenses though.  Has anyone had experience 
working on these to the part level on the main board?  I work on SMT 
NAS/server boards quite frequently now so the technology doesn't scare me - 
just looking for specific repair suggestions/experiences with this beast.
