I had no idea that pickup frequency-response was so uneven due to the 
placement.  After seeing those "comb filter" plots I'm suprised pickups 
sound as good as they do!  And, as you said there are physical body 
resonances and electrical circuit resonances with the pickup inductance 
and load capacitance, which all act to distort the frequency response 
even further.  Interesting stuff.  Thanks for posting the links.
