It's real-life tested part and it worked for about 20 years since
manufacture. You don't have that assurance with new part, that may work
for 200 years as some EPROMs claim, or only for 2 weeks before it breaks
because new process uses 100 times less silicon than 20 years ago.
Besides, it's vintage EPROM, so I'm sure it contributes to that vintage
sound...
Anyway - if you choose to use new one, check the datasheet first. Some
new EPROMs have data retention rated at only 10 years. More than needed
for consumer stuff, but total mistake for synths.
Mahined sockets are overrated IMHO. The best gas-tight grip have those
2-springing leaves type, I guess you can call them old shool, been
around for few decades.
