Here is the update to my repair job for the Matrix 6r. The Willem Programmer V5 running on Windows 7 was a bit of a tackle and took me some time. 60 updates plus configuration on my PC machine since Feb 2012 as i’m a Mac user. After that I finally could install the Eprom software plus the patches IO.dll to make the software work on 64-bit technology. Took me some time. Once that was up it was a matter of 30 seconds of reading out the ROM and comparing with the factory binaries. And my hunch was right. The part had a “bit rot” and computer dementia. So I erased the part and reburned it, replaced the Patch /RAM battery, various capacitors in the power supply, reloaded factory patches via MP3 file and now I’m up and running again working perfectly fine.

Two things that worry me off hand: 1. the connectors with the ribbon cable. Lot’s of problems there in the future and 2. the EPROM 27256. The question is if the actual part needs replacing as well or if it is freshly programmed will the lifetime be another 10-15 years. Isn’t it better to get brand new parts from today and burn them freshly to avoid more problems. Oh and the sockets are really old school. Would be nice to get new machined sockets. And tons of capacitors puhh lots of work.

Many thanks for your help

Csaba
