All accents from a sequencer in synths I've worked before, was just logic
signal (gate), so you could do anything with it, trigger whatever you want
and I think leaving the choice for the user is most appreciated way of doing
things.
Sometimes it is hardwired to VCA and drives VCA to the maximum. Or in
another words, accented notes had VCA driven by twice as big control
voltage.
